NEDO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the 5th International Conference on Carbon Recycling 2023 at the Hilton Hiroshima on 27 September as part of Tokyo GX Week 2023.
Following opening remarks by Mr Nobuhiro Yoshida, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the conference featured speeches on carbon recycling from world leaders, including H.E. Mr. Noah Deich, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Carbon Management, Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S., and other government officials and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). Speeches were made on their initiatives and expectations for carbon recycling.
In the second half of the conference, a panel of experts held a lively discussion on four themes: ‘The Role of Carbon Recycled Fuel (e-fuel) toward Carbon Neutrality’, ‘International Expansion of the Carbon Recycling Market’, ‘Creating Business through R&D and Demonstration Base’ and ‘Promoting Business-to-Business and Inter-Regional Collaboration for Accelerating the Industrialization’ were the subject of lively discussion. NEDO participated as a panelist in the discussion on ‘Creation of players through demonstration research centers’.
In closing remarks, NEDO President Saito introduced the results of the conference and stated that NEDO will continue to make various efforts to realise carbon neutrality, from carbon recycling demonstrations to implementation and further international cooperation.
The conference was attended by some 800 participants (229 on-site and 589 online) from 20 countries and regions. The official website also featured videos on the initiatives of the companies involved.
